Brine Roads & Travel

Interstellar travel runs on the Brine Roads — blue-salt pathways remembered into gravity and salt-current. They are not physical roads but remembered routes, carved into the bones of space by generations of navigators. Whoever controls movement controls civilization, and a world cut off from the Roads becomes economically starved.

Remembered Roads

The Brine Roads are not tunnels or gates in the ordinary sense. They are routes that exist because they are remembered — gravity and salt-current shaped by the passage of countless fleets and the blue-salt sight of the Caldrane navigators who read them.

House Caldrane controls arrival itself under imperial license. 'A king rules land,' the Path-Keepers say. 'An empire rules arrival.'

The Dangers of the Roads

The Roads are not safe. Route ghosts, blue-salt storms, false gates, Hollow Veil leaks, forgotten stations, salt pirates, and living route parasites all haunt them. Blue salt itself causes route sickness — victims remember roads that do not exist, speak to doors, or walk toward places they have never been.

The Route Economy

Caldrane profits from route licenses, navigation maps, hidden-path auctions, fleet passage tariffs, smuggler pardons, route insurance, and lost-system recovery. A single closed road can starve a planet; a single opened one can crown a House.
